Andys Man Club Fundraiser

#itsoktotalk

Join us on Saturday, 23rd of August for a community-oriented day of climbing, taster sessions and competitions to raise money for the Andys Man Club men’s mental health charity.

Climbing has been shown to have positive impacts on our mental health, boosting confidence and self-esteem, promoting communication and problem-solving, while overcoming challenges. We want to share the positive effects of climbing with as many people as we can, while promoting the importance of safe spaces for men to talk about their mental health.

Through competition entry and our raffle, we hope to raise important funds to aid Andys Man Club in their important work in communities across the UK.

Who are Andys Man Club?

Andys Man Club is a peer-led charity that encourages men to speak openly about their issues. They aim to achieve this by arranging weekly talking groups that bring power through awareness and the sharing of stories and experiences, in order to support #ThatOneMan in his time of need and help him see that his tomorrow can be better than his today.

Their ultimate aim is to prevent families from going through the heartache and grief caused by suicide, and to address this issue as it is the biggest killer of men under 54.

Did you know that the first meeting in 2016 took place in West Yorkshire? Halifax was the location for the first location to host a group of men who were able to openly talk about their mental health, kick-starting a journey that has gone national.

With groups operating nationwide that are completely volunteer-led, and all group facilitators having first interacted with Andys Man Club as a service user, safe spaces are provided for men aged 18 and above to openly talk about their mental health in a judgement-free, non-clinical environment.

The Competition

Kicking off from 1pm with competitors having until 7pm to complete as many boulders as they can, with 20 traditional competition boulders ranging from V0-V8 and 3 additional ‘challenge’ boulders that have a focus on teamwork.

Scoring will be a little different to usual, to provide an emphasis on participation and effort rather than overall winners.  Completing boulders in a certain number of attempts will provide a total score that reflects entries into a hat for prizes to be allocated through a prize draw.

We’ll have a partner-climb challenge, a traverse problem, and more to be confirmed! This is not your normal climbing competition…

Booking

Regular entry prices apply, with competition tickets priced at £5. All proceeds from competition entry fees will be donated to the Andys Man Club charity.

Family taster sessions must be booked prior to the event, but are free of charge.
