Summer Sessions

Our summer sessions for kids and families are the perfect way to give climbing a go, develop skills and confidence, and meet new people. We have sessions available just for kids, as well as sessions for the whole family.

Sessions last one hour, cost £10 per person, and hire is included. No experience is necessary, but if you have climbed before then that’s great too. Our awesome instructors will be sure to tailor the session content to each individual.

Sessions are running every weekday throughout the school summer holidays, from 26th July until 3rd September. Booking is possible online, over the phone, or at the desk.

Why Climbing?

Climbing is a fantastic activity that provides full-body movement and is a true sport for life. Our youngest climbers are the Rock Tots babies and our oldest active customer is 88! It’s a common misconception that you need to have great upper-body strength to climb – climbing is much more about movement, problem-solving, and developing confidence.

While climbing initially developed outdoors, it’s now possible to climb year-round and make climbing work around a busy school and work schedule thanks to indoor facilities like ours. In fact, a lot of our customers only ever climb indoors, and indoor climbing has firmly established itself as a discipline of its own.

The benefits for children are exactly the same as for adults. Climbing teaches responsibility (for yourself and for others), independent decision-making, self-reliance, confidence, and an appreciation of all of the amazing things that the human body can do.

With climbing being included in the Olympic Games for the first time this year, now is the perfect time to get really involved with this amazing sport. Our summer sessions are the perfect way to develop your skills if you’re feeling inspired by Tokyo 2020, or – Olympics-aside – if climbing is something you’ve been thinking about for a while.

What are you waiting for? We look forward to seeing you at a summer session soon!

FAQ

I’m scared of heights. Is that a problem?

Not at all! Not only is bouldering practiced on short walls where you’re never too far from the ground, but you can also progress entirely at your own pace. It’s absolutely fine to spend time traversing (moving across the wall rather than up it), and to get really comfortable making a couple of moves at a time, before taking on the full height of the wall. We encourage building confidence in a slow, steady way, and our team are always happy to offer support and advice.

What if I’ve got no upper body strength?

It’s a common misconception that you need to have great upper-body strength to climb. While this can certainly be helpful, it’s far from necessary. Climbing is about engaging your whole body, developing flexibility and balance, trusting your movement, and solving problems in creative, three-dimensional ways.

Sounds great for kids but I think I’m too old.

We’re yet to turn a climber away for being too old! This is a sport that can be practiced well into old age, and people aged 35+ are actually one of our fastest-growing groups of new climbers. Not only that, but the full-body movement offered by climbing is a great way to stay flexible and mobile.

Do I need special equipment or clothing?

Not at all! We provide hire shoes, which are included in the price of the summer session. Just make sure you’re wearing clothes that allow free movement and that you feel comfortable in.
