Learn to Auto
The first part to our Competent Climber adult pathway, Learn to Auto is your first step to competent rope climbing techniques.
All your learning is laid out and tracked in a handy logbook that comes with any booking. So you can dip in and out as your schedule requires.
The four-stage pathway can be started at any time you can join at any point depending on your experience. Feel free to speak to a member of our team if you have any questions.
What is Learn to Auto?
Your first steps into climbing routes. Auto belays are mechanical devices that allow you to climb on our big walls without a belayer. You simply clip in and climb on.
In this short class we will teach you everything you need to know about using the devices safely. Run by our qualified instructors in small classes every week, you can book on and we will get you climbing right away.
Once you have done the class you will be signed off to use the auto belays at Big Depot unsupervised. Which means you can come down anytime and climb using them, with or without your friends.
Participants usually require one class to become proficient auto belay climbers and move on to Learn to Belay.
What Does It Cost?
£25 per person, per class.
Price includes entry and equipment hire.

Wednesday’s 18:00-19:00
Thursday’s 18:00-19:00
Learn to Auto Booking
Classes need to be booked in advance and can be done online, over the phone, or at the centre.
There is also an option for block booking and booking multiple weeks in advance.
This does not have to be consecutive weeks, if there is a week you cannot make, then as long as Big Depot Climbing Centre knows in advance, the bookings can be rolled over to a different date.
