Following the previous refurbishments of 2020 and 2023, Depot Nottingham is undergoing another renovation to improve its offering to the climbing community of Nottingham.
This will result in some disruption to the usual service for a short period, but the final result will be worth any short-term effects.
The planned redevelopment will take place in phases, with phase one being the removal of the competition wall area (directly on the left as you enter the climbing area of the centre), and replacing panels and updating the wall angles.
Following the completion of the competition wall replacement, work will begin to remove and replace the climbing surface on the right-hand side of the centre, from the end of the junior climbing area to the edge of the mezzanine.
The third phase of redevelopment, following customer feedback, will be the removal of the mezzanine climbing surfaces and replacement with a purpose-built gym area for off-the-wall conditioning and the introduction of a Tension 2 climbing board.

What will be happening?
Phase 1 work will begin on the 28th of July, and will involve the closure of the centre between 9 am – 4 pm as major work takes place. The centre’s opening hours during this period will be 4 pm-10 pm Monday-Friday, and 9 am-9 pm Saturdays and Sundays.
This is to ensure that customers are still able to access a safe climbing environment, free of the limitations of work taking place during opening hours.
*Please note timelines are subject to change, with any changes communicated via social media.
We will be removing the competition wall area of the centre and replacing it with walls more conducive to the evolving modern style of indoor climbing. This will involve replacing the wall surface from the beginning of the competition wall (by the matting and cubbies), all the way down to the dog leg that was inserted in 2023’s refurbishment.
Following this work, we will begin removing climbing surfaces on the opposite side of the centre (right-hand side) from the end of the junior climbing wall area to the edge of the mezzanine
We will also be removing the climbing areas on the mezzanine and repurposing the area to house an offering of gym equipment for off-the-wall conditioning and housing a Tension 2 climbing board.
To reduce the effect of building works on your climbing experience, we will be closing the centre between 9 am and 4 pm, Monday to Friday, from the 28th of July to allow work to take place, ahead of opening 4 pm until 10 pm on these days. Weekend hours will remain 9 am -9 pm, but with the competition area cordoned off for safety. This area is expected to be reopened to climbing from mid-August.
During our opening periods, construction areas will be cordoned off for safety, and you’ll also be able to keep your eye on the progress of the build. Staff will be on hand throughout the process to ensure that the centre is clean, comfortable and most importantly, safe for you to continue climbing around the temporary opening hours.
From the 22nd September, your improved Depot Nottingham climbing centre will be open as normal, with all works completed.
