Schools Climbing FAQ

We gathered some common questions that are asked by schools ahead of booking a session. If you have any other questions or concerns, then just click the button below to get in touch.

Is climbing appropriate for all ages?

Yes! It definitely is. We run regular junior sessions for kids aged one year upwards, and the same applies to our school groups. From primary schools to colleges, children and young people of all ages are very welcome here at Depot Climbing.

Can you work to GCSE/A-Level criteria?

The short answer is yes! The longer answer is that we don’t have standard GCSE/A-Level sessions, but we can meet requirements where these are outlined clearly. Just get in touch to get the ball rolling.

Do you work with SEND groups?

We do indeed! Climbing is a remarkably inclusive and adaptive sport. If you have any concerns about your particular group, then just get in touch and we’ll be happy to answer any questions.

What about PRU?

Absolutely! As well as being a brilliant physical activity, climbing builds confidence and develops teamwork skills. We’ve had some fantastic experiences with PRU groups. If you have any concerns, then please feel free to get in touch.

Do the kids require any special equipment?

Nope! Normal PE kit is fine, or even school uniform if it is comfortable and allows the children to move freely. We provide hire shoes and this is included in the price.

How much does it cost?

Our sessions start at £6 per person for a 1-hour bouldering session (and at £10 for roped climbing at Big Depot). We can also arrange longer sessions if required.

What if the children are scared of heights?

Climbing isn’t all about getting to the top of the wall! A huge part of climbing is learning skills on the mats and applying these at ground level or simply by traversing (going along) a wall, rather than climbing up. Our instructors work with children on a day-to-day basis and are experts in building confidence and enthusiasm – the aim is to make climbing fun, not scary!

Can I visit the centre before booking?

Of course! Our Centre Managers will be more than happy to meet you at the centre and give you a guided tour of our facilities. This is also a great opportunity to chat through any questions and concerns in person, and to meet members of our instructing team.
